Everything about it hits hard, especially Wale spitting a serious verse that you wouldn’t have expected him to on a track with Reminisce. Reminisce teamed up with Wale for an even harder version of the hit, Asalamalekun. Where is just as good as any of them, and is a tune you should have in your list. A dance track that does the job for the parties and celebratory times, and that’s it. Tekno’s new hit is in line with what we’ve been getting from him over the last few years. If we are to believe Seyi Shay, the song might actually originally be WizKid’s. Drake borrowed some Nigerian sounds to put out one of the world’s biggest songs of the year. We’re not going to argue with you guys on whether or not this song should be here. Mama put the final stamp of approval on Kiss Daniel’s credentials, and we can definitely say he is for real. Kiss Daniel not only has one of the albums of the year, he has one of the songs of the year to go with that. Fada Fada, just like Connect, is a tune that all Igbos will automatically connect with and is also a great enough song that it appeals outside of the East.

Phyno got a huge amount of success with his 2015 hit, Connect, so it makes sense he runs something with the same style. With Reekado Banks dropping his debut album this year, the next 12 months could easily be all about Reekado Banks.

Standard is literally “another gbedu wey dey burst brain”, and could easily be one of the hottest party jams of the year. It’s the second Reekado Banks on here, and for good reason. The base on the beat is to die for seriously. This is a song that will be in rotation throughout 2016, and maybe beyond. After having a less than stellar 2015 musically (financially he was still great), Dbanj reminded everyone that he still got it in his locker. ĭbanj is back? It certainly seems that way with the release of this highly infectious tune, Emergency. To have a hit in Nigeria, you need all the ingredients this song boasts of Great beat, solid lyrics, and a catch phrase for a hook. After his hit single, Do Something, Koker is kinda proving he’s no fluke with this solid dance tune, Kolewerk. It’s one of the catchiest songs out this year, and it will be remembered for a very long time, not just cos of it’s quality but because of that diss from Davido.Ĭhocolate City can really look outside of MI and Ice Prince with Koker on their squad. It ended up being the platform Davido used to sneak diss his baby mama and uncle, but that aside, Humblesmith really has an A+ track in Osinachi Remix. The song was released amidst huge drama between Davido, his baby mama, and her uncle Dele Momodu. Money which features Flavour falls in line with the string of hits that have come to definite Timaya’s longevity. At any point in time, he might not be the biggest star, but he’s always up there with the big leagues, and has top 10 singles every year that spin in heavy rotation. Timaya is probably the most consistently good musician in Nigeria over the past decade, and there’s a reason he’s been in the game for a long time. I know it’s one of my favorites this year even if I wouldn’t have predicted it when it dropped. It’s a slow burner, and grows on you over time. So what does he do? Put out this very classic sounding beauty, Oluwa Ni. The winner of last year’s coveted Next Rated award, and the source of the all the controversy, Reekado Banks came into 2016 with a lot of pressure on him.
SAMMIE SONGS 2016 HOW TO
Anything you want to say about IllyGati, he knows how to package his music, and Nku is proof of that. The combo of Kezy Klef, Ill Bliss, Flavour and StormRex works pretty much to perfection. Ill Bliss dropped this gem early this year featuring StormRex and Flavour, and it’s one that will stick around for a minute. In line with his previous singles, Pick Up & Orente, Ready explores the thoughts of a man who’s ready to take on the journey of Love and all that it brings. Is there any doubt about this song being on here? Adekunle Gold struck gold (pun intended) once again with this lovely Afro-poppish love tune, Ready. If you’re in the mood for a Nigerian love song, this is definitely for you. It’s everything you’d think of when you think of these two individually, and together they didn’t lose their magic. Two of the best ‘Afro-RnB’ music makers in Nigeria, Aramide and Adekunle Gold put out this lovely love song, Love Me.
